As a service member, I don't get offended by people lashing out against us. What offends me is that we are under pay and not enough benefits to do the work we sign up for. If people really care, lobby the lawmakers about getting us better wages and benefits. Other then that, don't care about politics and don't care about those bringing us down. 8)

Lady Luck, if I meant you I would have said so. I'm an Aussie, I say what I think.
I have been on here about 6 months and have noticed a trend there, that's all.
Don't take it so damm personally. To be honest, I have only ever scanned over one of your comments.
Where this comment comes from is chatting to soldiers and THEM telling me they are sick of being gushed all over. They will tell you they are just doing the job they chose to do.
You think I don't know??
Oh and a heads up... My boyfriend deploys in 4 weeks.
Whoa!!!!

ladyluck, I don't think aussie was trying to single you out with the term service men. I think she used it just because it was a more general term. the reason I can feel somewhat confident in this is because I don't really think of you when I think of the "gushing" praises that seem to have been behind the blog. I've said it before in other blogs that sometimes people seem to put service people up on a pedestal here in the states without even knowing a thing about the actual person. It concerns me more when it comes to a site like this geared towards dating I guess because you get these bright eyed gals who think that a military guy is all that just because he is in the military. you can't just blindly go in assuming that every individual person in the military is awesome and of good moral standards just because. Just like you can't go and assume they are all blood thirsty killers either. It goes both ways, and sometimes it seems like people forget that and you just want to remind them these are just human beings, just like you and I. Treat them with the same respect and courtesy you would anyone. and maybe if you think you should treat them with a touch more because of what they are doing for you and your country that's cool, but you don't need to go all gushy and silly over yourself -- it can be a little embarassing I guess. I hope that helped... it's kind of hard to explain without sounding like I think people are wrong for being grateful and supportive--which is completely not what I'm trying to say. ugh! whatever, hope you get it.

Iam taking your blog as a dig to me because I ve looked at all the Blogs and I seem to be the only one to use the term SERVICE MEN!!Sorry you seem to think I gush over them.I have been raised in a very Military Family!! I ve always talk to MILITARY PEOPLE as People! Military Life is all I know! I use to take for granted the people that went over sea~s because I did not have any one I knew Die Over Sea`s!! BUT This Canadian Thanksgiving weekend I had to explain to my CHILD why his BESTFRIENDS FATHER WAS NOT COMING HOME AGAIN!! So Now I tend to be MORE THANK FUL to all The SERVICE MEN ACROSS THE WORLD FOR A JOB WELL DONE! If this is gushing then You know I am Sorry!!! War Just becomes a little More Personal WHEN SOMEBODY YOU KNOW LOSES HIS LIFE FOR HIS COUNTRY!!!!

Hey that's cool... I've always talked to service people like they were people (but then, I am too, 'retired military' so maybe I say it in 'military speak') -
Does that make any sense? Anyways, good topic for discussion and/or debate!
Cheers

Some are more 'affected' by what our service men and women are enduring overseas, hence the 'gushing' you're referring to....
Every member of the armed forces wants to know that their countrymen remember and support them, but I think it boils down to 'one concept' -
(actually heard this line in one of the 'rambo' movies - Stallone's character was asked the question after he rescued some long lost POW's, "Then John, what is it you want?" He replied, [pointing to the POW's]: "I want, what THEY want: TO BE LOVED BY MY COUNTRY!!!")
I think this pretty much sums it up; That's all our soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines want. To know that their country loves and supports them, and I believe that those who do the most 'gushing' realize this, so tend to 'pour it on' as much as they can....
Hope this opinion helps answer the question.....
Cheers
A matter of perspective I think dear lady.....
